Our winemakers spend each and every day imagining and creating great wines, thinking about the great moments when they will be consumed and always bearing in mind the food they will be paired with. He graduated from the University of Chile as an agronomist with a specialization in viticulture and oenology. He came to Ventisquero in 2000, after working in major wine regions such as Napa and Sonoma in the United States, Barossa in Australia and some regions of France, Spain and Italy.
Felipe leads VWE’s winemaking area and maintains a close collaboration with renowned Australian winemaker, John Duval, with whom he co-produces the iconic Pangea, Vértice, Enclave and Obliqua wines.
Felipe Tosso came to Ventisquero in 2000 after having visited and worked in the most important regions of the wine industry, including Napa and Sonoma in the United States, Barossa in Australia and some of the most emblematic wine-producing regions of Argentina, France, Spain and Italy.
He took part in the harvests at some of the great wineries of Bordeaux, including Château Canon-la-Gaffelière, Château La Mondotte and Château Clos de l’Oratoire. He graduated from Universidad de Chile with a degree in agronomy and a major in viticulture and winemaking. In 1995, Viña Concha y Toro appointed Felipe as their winemaker for the Cachapoal Valley and he was responsible for some of their best Carménère wines.
Felipe now heads up Ventisquero’s winemaking department. He works closely with renowned Australian winemaker and close friend John Duval, with whom he co-produces the iconic wines Pangea and Vértice, Enclave and Obliqua.
Felipe is married with four daughters. He loves music, tennis, dogs and being in contact with nature.
In 1999 he graduated as an Agronomist and worked on his first harvest for Concha y Toro.
In 2000 he traveled to the US for a vintage in Kendall-Jackson, mainly to produce Chardonnay. Upon his return, he participated in a project in the Valle Costero del Maipo, belonging to Viña Ventisquero, integrating permanently in 2006, where he starts focusing on Pinot Noir and white wines. He later becomes the responsible winemaker for the Kalfu and Ramirana brands.
Alejandro Galaz is a winemaker with over 20 years of experience. After graduating from Universidad de Concepción in 1999 with a degree in agricultural engineering, he began to work on his first harvest for Viña Concha y Toro.
In 2000, he travelled to the United States for a harvest at Kendall-Jackson on the central coast of California (Monterey), mainly to produce Chardonnay. When he returned, he participated in a Viña Ventisquero project in the coastal part of the Maipo Valley in Chile.
After a successful harvest with Ventisquero, he travelled to France to participate in a harvest for the company Castel-Virginie in the Languedoc-Roussillon Region.
In 2006, Alejandro officially joined the Viña Ventisquero team, where he focuses on Pinot Noir and white wines. He is also the winemaker responsible for the Kalfu (cool-climate wines) and Ramirana brands.
Angel has been a winemaker at VWE for 10 years, but his connection to wine and vineyards spans his entire life. He began his career at Viña Concha y Toro and later participated in the first two harvests at Viña Ventisquero along with Felipe Tosso.
For years he toured various vineyards and wineries in Chile, the US and Spain until his return to join VWE’s oenological team in 2010.
Ángel Marchant has been a winemaker at Viña Ventisquero for 10 years, but has been connected to wine and vineyards his whole life. His father was a winery supervisor, and Ángel grew up surrounded by barrels and vineyards.
He began his career at Viña Concha y Toro and later participated in two harvests at Viña Ventisquero with Felipe Tosso. He left the wine industry for a time to work with Universidad de Concepción on projects involving medicinal plants for small-scale producers in the Itata Valley.
He later worked with various Chilean wineries and then pursued opportunities in the United States and Spain. His experience with international wineries includes the time that he spent at the Flowers Vineyard and Winery in Cazadero, Sonoma Valley and Bodegas Borsao in Tabuenca, near Zaragoza in Spain. After a few years, Ángel returned to join Viña Ventisquero’s winemaking team.
Carolina studied Agronomy at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. In 2003 she made a one-semester exchange to France to the École d’ingénieurs de Purpan. In 2005 she arrivd to VWE for an internship and then traveled to Spain for a vintage at Bodegas Borsao, Aragón. Upon her return, she returned to work at Ventisquero, this time as an assistant winemaker.
Today she works as Production Winemaker in charge of the Finished Wine and Pre-packaging area of the Vineyard.
Carolina Zapata studied agronomy at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. In 2003, she completed a one-semester exchange programme at l’Ecole d’Ingénieurs de PURPAN in Toulouse in France. In February 2005, she began a five-month work placement with Ventisquero Wine Estates. After she completed the programme, she travelled to Spain to work a harvest at Bodegas Borsao in Aragón. When she returned, she rejoined Ventisquero, this time as Assistant Winemaker.
Today Carolina is the Production Winemaker responsible for the winery’s finished and pre-bottled wine area. She is 42 years old and has three children.
He studied Agronomy with a major in Enology at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Later, she obtained a Master’s degree in Enology and Viticulture at the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
She has worked on vintages in prestigious wine regions of France, such as Bordeaux, Burgundy, Alsace, Languedoc-Roussillon and Zaragoza in Spain. In Chile, she developed her career in Concha y Toro, Viña San Pedro Tarapacá and Vía Wines.
She arrived at Ventisquero Wine Estates in 2018 and is currently the winemaker for ANUN, brand that focuses on the Chinese market.
Winemaker Deborah Witting studied agronomy with a focus on winemaking at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. She was guided by her love of the countryside and animals, which she developed while visiting her father’s farm. As a student, she became interested in winemaking because it is a specialty that allows one to develop creativity. She later completed a master’s degree in winemaking and viticulture at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
Deborah has acquired substantial experience of winemaking both in Chile and abroad by participating in harvests in prestigious wine regions such as Bordeaux, Burgundy, Alsace and Languedoc-Roussillon in France and in Zaragoza in Spain. In Chile, she has worked at Concha y Toro, Viña San Pedro Tarapacá and Vía Wines.
She joined Ventisquero Wine Estates in 2018 and is currently the winemaker for the ANUN brand, which is mainly geared towards the Chinese market.
Deborah enjoys hobbies such as music, food, gardening, sports and travel.
John was a winemaker at the renowned Australian winery Penfolds Grange for 29 years.
He began working with Penfolds in 1974 and was appointed chief winemaker in 1986. During this period, John earned awards and recognition for his wines and helped establish Penfolds as one of the world’s great wine brands.
In 2003 he began his joint work with Ventisquero Wine Estates, co-creating with Felipe Tosso the iconic wines of the winery: Pangea, Vértice, Enclave and Obliqua.
John Duval was a winemaker with the renowned Australian winery Penfolds Grange for 29 years.
His love of wine began with his family, who owned quality vineyards to the south of Adelaide, Australia, providing Shiraz grapes and vine cuttings to Penfolds.
He began to work for Penfolds in 1974 and was named Chief Winemaker there in 1986. During his time with the Australian winery, John supervised a dynamic period of development, winning many awards and a great deal of recognition for his wines and helping to establish Penfolds as one of the world’s great wine brands.
He left the famous winery in 2002 to realize his dream of making his own wine.
In 2003, he began to work with Ventisquero Wine Estates, co-creating the winery’s flagship wines Pangea, Vértice and Enclave with Felipe Tosso. That same year, he launched his first wine, Plexus, for John Duval Wines.
He currently lives in the Barossa Valley, which is one of the most famous wine regions in Australia, and travels to Chile annually to work on blends at Ventisquero.
Care for our vineyards lies at the core of our winemaking. We have watched them grow and studied every centimetre so as to ensure that each bottle faithfully represents its noble origins. We therefore only use technology when we believe it will help us make great wine. We are motivated to work in harmony with our environment. We seek to respect nature and to minimize our impact on it.
He is currently the Chief Viticulturist at Ventisquero Wine Estates, but joined the vinification team as a winemaker in January 2009, with primary responsibility for red wine making.
His previous experience includes 7 years at Viña William Fèvre in the Maipo Alto region, and time spent in France, Northern Italy and Portugal. He was also the President of the Chilean Winemakers Association.
Sergio Hormazábal has been Viña Ventisquero’s Head Viticulturist since 2019, but joined the Ventisquero Wine Estates winemaking team in January 2009 as a winemaker focused mainly on making red wine.
In the basement of Sergio’s grandmother’s house, there were bottles of wine covered in cobwebs. They belonged to his grandfather, who died before Sergio was born. He was always curious about those wines.
Since then, his love of wine has gradually grown and has never waned. Sergio’s interest in nature and its cycles, plants and geography led him to study agronomy and to go on to earn a master’s degree in viticulture.
His previous experience includes seven years at Viña William Fèvre in the Maipo Alto region, and the time that he spent in France, northern Italy and Portugal. Other roles he has had include President of the Chilean Winemakers’ Association and research assistant at the Institut Coopératif du Vin in Languedoc.
Sergio is married with two children and has his own wine project, “Viñateros de Raíz”.
Miguel is an agronomist that from a very young age had an affinity for agriculture since he lived on the Chilean countryside until he was 10 years old.
In his student years he worked during the summer season in Concha y Toro, in Peumo, and he loved viticulture. He worked there until 2010, when he joined VWE as a Viticulturist
Miguel Gallet holds a degree in agronomy from Universidad de Concepción. He has had an affinity with agrnomy since he was very young, having lived in a rural area until the age of ten.
As a student, he spent his summer months working at Concha y Toro in Peumo and fell in love with viticulture. He worked there until 2010, when he was appointed viticulturist at Viña Ventisquero, where he remains to this day.
Miguel is married and has three children, Felipe, Joaquín and Magdalena.
He graduated from Agronomy at the University of Chile in 2001 specializing in Viticulture and Enology. He did his professional internship and thesis for 2 years in Concha y Toro. In 2002 he traveled to a Napa Valley Grape Harvest, Rassmunsen Winery. He worked 2 years for Viñedos Errázuriz Ovalle, as a winemaker for the VEO Line. Since September 2006 he has been working in Ventisquero as a Viticulturist, being in charge of the Casablanca, Leyda and Atacama vineyards.
Fernando graduated in 2001 from Universidad de Chile with a degree in agronomy, specializing in viticulture and winemaking.
He completed his work placement and thesis over a two-year period at Concha y Toro (working on the Don Melchor wine) with Enrique Tirado. In 2002, he travelled to the Napa Valley to participate in a harvest at Rasmussen Winery in St. Helena.
Fernando worked as assistant winemaker at Terramater. He later participated in a harvest in Trento, Italy (2004) for one of the Cavit wineries (Sarche, D.O. Alto Adige, Trentino) and in Mouton, France.
He worked for two years for Viñedos Errázuriz Ovalle as the winemaker for the VEO line.
He became interested in viticulture after working for a few years as a winemaker because he enjoys being outside in the fresh air.
He has worked as a viticulturist at Ventisquero since September 2006 and is currently responsible for the Casablanca (Tapihue), Leyda (Las Terrazas) and Atacama (Loncomilla) vineyards.
